GICS: A Model of Global Collaboration to Advance the Surgical Care of Children

The Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS) is composed of children’s surgical providers all over the world united by a common belief – that every child deserves the best surgical care when they need it, without causing the impoverishment of their families.

The aim of GICS is to bring together providers of surgical services for children with health, advocacy and policy experts in order to:

  1. Analyse the current state of surgical care for children in low- and middle-income countries
  2. Develop global, regional, national, and local priorities to improve the delivery of surgical care for children in LMICs
  3. Identify and bring together resources to address those global, national, and regional priorities

In line with this, GICS have recently completed a report on their vital work thus far, published in the World Journal of Surgery.
